For ages, I have been seeking an app that will let me gather addresses of interesting places around town so that I can check them out the next time I happen to be in the neighborhood. There are apps that do this just for restaurants, but what about shoe stores or small museums? Its astonishing weve had to wait this long for it. Everplaces works great.
A big plus is the syncing with a web-based account so that you dont have to edit your list of sites entirely in your phone -- you can fiddle around with tags, etc without having to use the bitty keyboard. If youve been keeping a Google map MyMap with these locations (I had one with over 2 dozen pins on it), great news: You can import it. Also great is the bookmarklet, which enables you to create a pin for interesting places you come across on the web. It will not automatically fill in the name or address of the place, but perhaps that is for the best, as with a bit of extra typing you can make sure the pin has all the information you need, including notes about why you entered it in the first place. Other great features enable you to sort your pins into categories and tag them, although it does lump all tagged locations together, so you will see, for example, all the tea shops in all the cities youve tagged.
I have not used this while traveling, so I cant testify to its helpfulness there, but far more important to me is the ability to save the many interesting places in the city where I live so that I dont forget to check them out. I look forward to trying it on my next trip.
For the future, I would recommend support for adding a live web link to entries, so that if, say, I see a place reviewed in the paper, I can create a pin for it that links back to that review.
